Here we go again! Will the El Centro Chamber of Commerce ever learn not to tamper with our beloved logo, "Where the sun spends the winter," which has served our community for almost half a century?
Four years ago the Chamber of Commerce attempted to change this logo, which is recognized not only here in our valley but also throughout the state of California, as well as states from Washington to Michigan from which many of our snowbirds come to enjoy our sunny weather. At that time the proposal change met with such opposition that the issue was dropped.
This time the Chamber of Commerce is trying to sneak through a new logo by having the City Council approve without public knowledge a most mediocre excuse for a logo that might represent any area in the Southwest.
I hope that the Chamber of Commerce and the City Council will seriously consider this step that they are taking in changing a unique logo. If they do change the logo they will be making a terrible mistake! As a resident of El Centro for more than 50 years the change will bring me great sadness.
