Search warrants net drug arrests in Calexico, Brawley

County Narcotic Task Force agents arrested three men and cited a fourth yesterday in executing two unrelated search warrants in Calexico and Brawley.

NTF Assistant Cmdr. Mike Loyd said agents arrested Jose Ortega, 34, and Israel Santiago, 20, both of Calexico, in Calexico after they served a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Wozencraft Street.

In Brawley, agents arrested Raymond Marquez, 34, of Brawley at his residence in the 500 block of H Street. Arnold Mendez Cocova, 38, was cited for drug possession and released at the scene.

In the Calexico incident, which happened about 2 p.m. Thursday, agents found a small amount of methamphetamine, a small amount of hallucinogenic mushrooms (psilocybin), also known as magic mushrooms, some drug paraphernalia and a firearm inside the residence.


Both men were arrested for possession for sales of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm. They were arrested without incident.

Around 5:37 p.m. Thursday, agents in Brawley found a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Marquez's home.

Marquez was arrested without incident on counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. Cocova was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

All three men arrested were being held in the county jail today. Their bail information was unavailable as of presstime.
