Recreation Shorts — Cru wins two

The El Centro Cru traveling basketball team won two games in Indio over the weekend, knocking off the Indio Boys and Girls Club 36-34 and topping the Coachella Valley Boys and Girls Club 49-38.

Anthony Rojas and Andrew Grooms both scored 10 points against Indio.

Robert Christensen had 12 points and 11 rebounds against Coachella Valley, Rojas tallied 12, and Javer Beaver, Michael Garcia and Marcos Sellers all added six.

The Cru (4-2) competes today through Sunday in a tournament in El Paso, Texas.

BMXers prepare for nationals

SEELEY — In the final tune-up before this weekend's nationals, the Imperial Valley BMX Club staged racing Saturday night at its track at Sumbeam Lake.

More than 30 riders from the Valley are expected to compete at the BMX national championships in Phoenix, said Rick Webb of The Finish Line Bike Shop in El Centro.

Because of the nationals, there will be no racing at the Imperial Valley BMX track Saturday. For results from last weekend see Scoreboard.
