Brawley without electricity for 20 minutes Thursday

April 05, 2002|STAFF REPORT

BRAWLEY — Most of this city was without power for about 20 minutes at mid-day Thursday as an Imperial Irrigation District power station suffered a mechanical failure.

The power outage struck at 12:45 p.m. and by 1:05 p.m. power had been returned to most of the city. The remaining areas came back on line shortly after that.

Sue Giller, a spokeswoman for IID, said the outage occurred at the Rockwood station in the southwest portion of the city near Pioneers Memorial Hospital.

Giller said crews quickly went to work fixing the equipment failure. She said the power outage was short-lived.

While the outage did not cause much in the way of problems, some signal lights were disrupted and police had to provide traffic control at the signals.
