>>50 years ago — The stage is set for a pilgrimage Tuesday of 11,545 Imperial County voters to the polling places of the Valley's seven cities to elect City Council members, clerks and treasurers.

>>40 years ago — The De Anza Hotel is under new ownership and plans are under way for improvements, additions and better services. The new owners are Mr. and Mrs. Waiter Wilson Sr., who have operated hotels in the past and have spent the last 15 years as contractors in Pomona. The Wilsons purchased the hotel from Floyd Sanger.

>>30 years ago — Two young girls are reported well on their road to recovery after suffering painful burns in a boat explosion and fire near Salton Sea over the Easter weekend. Investigators said the incident occurred when the girls pulled their boat into the refueling ramp about seven miles north of Salton City.

>>20 years ago — Gary Guidi, 27, of Vista was to be released from El Centro Community Hospital this morning after he fell from inside a 25-foot empty water tower tank at Hinojosa Park in Brawley. "He just got a broken wrist," Craig Freeman, Guidi's boss, said this morning. "He sure was lucky."
