WINTERHAVEN — A 28-year-old Somerton, Ariz., woman died Sunday after she was ejected from her car during a single-vehicle rollover accident.

Imperial County Coroner Investigator Deputy Gary Hayes said Lorena Gutierrez was killed in the accident, which occurred about 5:45 p.m.

California Highway Patrol Office Daniel Webb said Gutierrez was traveling on Ogilby Road about seven to eight miles north of Interstate 8 and south of Indian Pass Road with her two children, an 8-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy.

Gutierrez failed to negotiate a turn and her compact car ran off the roadway and overturned. She was ejected from the car, as was her 6-year-old boy who was in the back seat.

Gutierrez and the boy were not wearing seat belts. The boy suffered moderate injuries, said Webb. The 8-year-old girl was wearing her seat belt and suffered only minor injuries. The children were both taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center.
