CALIPATRIA — The Calipatria High softball team had little trouble disposing of Vincent Memorial 18-0 in Citrus League action here Wednesday.
Picking up the win in throwing a two-hitter was Sara Erickson, who struck out one.
Leading the Hornet offense were Gracie Palazuelos, who went 4-for-4 with five RBI, Griselda Aceves, who went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI and Christina Dagnino, who went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs, two RBI.
Vincent will host Midway Baptist at 3:15 today and Calipatria will play at Escondido Adventist at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Southwest 16, Brawley 2
BRAWLEY — The Southwest High boys tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Imperial Valley League with a 16-2 victory over Brawley Union High here Wednesday.
Leading Southwest were its singles players, who swept the Wildcats.
Michael Palacio, No. 1 singles for the Eagles, won his three sets 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0.
No. 2 Timm Walter and No. 3 John Bonano both won 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 for Southwest.
On the doubles side, the No. 1 duo of brothers Greg and Randy Lyon won 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.
Bobby Romero and Jared Kaye, No. 2 for Southwest, and Chris Thomas and Neil Stickles, the No. 3 pair, both won twice for Southwest.
Romero/Kaye won 7-5 and 6-1 and Thomas/Stickles won 6-0, 6-1.
Enrique Sanchez and Nick Mendoza, the No. 2 team for Brawley, won twice 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1.
The Eagles play at 5 p.m. Monday at Central Union High in El Centro and Brawley will play at Central at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Imperial Valley League meet
BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High boys golf team won an Imperial Valley League meet at the Del Rio Country Club here Wednesday.
Brawley finished first with a 319, followed by Central with a 319, Southwest with a 329, Palo Verde with a 349 and Calexico with a 401.
Leading Brawley were Garrett Fargo with a 78, Ryan Mamer and Adam Schmitt with 79s and Michael Quick with an 82.
Medalist of the day was Central's Ivan Haro, who shot a 73. Other scorers for Central were Mario Luna with a 76. Chris Robb with an 84 and Beau Carson out with an 86.
Leading Southwest were Tyler Douthitt, Arek Legarra and Trevor Tagg with 82s. Bobby Kirby shot an 83 for the Eagles.
Edgar Ugarte led Calexico with a 92 followed by Eric Ugarte with a 101, Ivan Vargas with a 102 and Phillip Chang with a 106.
The teams will compete in the next IVL meet at 1 p.m. Monday in Borrego Springs.
