Cru captures Southwest Shootout

The El Centro Cru traveling basketball team captured the Southwest Shootout in El Paso, Texas, last weekend, winning six games.

The Cru defeated Lower Valley Hooster from Texas 53-50. Robert Christensen scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds and six assists for the Cru.

The Cru topped the All-Stars from El Paso 73-42. Javar Beaver scored 13 and Anthony Rojas and Andrew Grooms both added 12.

Michael Garcia scored 16 points as the Cru turned back And 1 from El Paso 64-54.

Vincent McSee hit 16 points in a 65-59 Cru win over US Blues from El Paso.

Garcia scored 21 points and Christensen added 17 in the Cru's 75-68 win over Da Boys of El Paso.

In the title game, the Cru defeated the El Paso Rockets 68-63. McSee scored 21 points, Christensen tallied 15 and Rojas and Beaver both added nine.


The Cru won the sportsmanship trophy and McSee was named the tourney's most valuable player.

Eclipse 12-and-Under softball

The Imperial Valley Eclipse 12-and-under traveling softball team went 2-2 last weekend in the Triple Crown Tournament in Cardiff-By-The-Sea.

The Eclipse beat the Brea Patriots 9-1 and Las Vegas Heat 11-2 and lost to the San Diego Renegades 7-6 and Oceanside Badside 6-3.

The Eclipse plays today in Norco and hosts a team from Yuma on Saturday.
