BRAWLEY — U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 21 suspected illegal immigrants in a motel here after getting an anonymous tip.

Border Patrol Agent Dionicio Delgado said agents apprehended the 21 suspected illegal immigrants in the White Wing Motel in Brawley.

He said the Border Patrol received an anonymous tip and apprehended the immigrants about 11 a.m. Thursday.

He said 19 of the individuals were from Mexico and volunteered to be returned to their homeland The other two are from Guatemala. Those two will go through normal deportation proceedings.

He said it is possible the immigrants were waiting to be picked up by smugglers but investigators aren't sure.

Delgado said investigators are not sure if the motel is used regularly as a stash house. He added it's common for "coyotes," or immigrant smugglers, to use motels as stash houses.

He said agents do not know if there was a "coyote" among the group. He said illegal immigrants usually don't point out the "coyote" among them..
