3rd annual youth conference set Saturday at SDSU

CALEXICO — High schoolers and their parents from all over the Imperial and Mexicali valleys are invited to the third annual Youth Conference at San Diego State University-Imperial Valley campus Saturday.

Festivities kick off at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

Teens will be able to attend workshops that are designed to help them deal with issues such as dating boundaries, eating disorders, teen pregnancy, leadership skills, job preparation and tobacco use.

There will be food, information, games and entertainment provided and Imperial County Superior Court Judge Donal Donnelly will speak to the teens at an assembly.

The organizing committee includes several agencies from across the Valley, including Clinicas De Salud Del Pueblo, Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Neighborhood House, Imperial County Probation Department, Imperial County Behavioral Health Service, Calexico Family Resource Center, KUBO Radio Bilingue and the Imperial County Office of Education.

The purpose of the conference is to empower the Valley's youth through awareness, prevention and leadership skills and to provide them with skills to become advocates of a healthy and positive lifestyle.
