El Centro police arrested a 22-year-old man Sunday night after a tense standoff inside a residence in El Centro.

El Centro police Sgt. Theresa Quinn said Louie Aguilar Jr. of El Centro was arrested about 9:30 p.m. after about a two-hour standoff with police while holding two people against their will inside their home.

Aguilar was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of false imprisonment, resisting and delaying arrest and domestic threats.

No information on the two victims was available this morning.

Quinn said apparently Aguilar entered a residence in the 100 block of East Holt Avenue about 7:30 p.m. A neighbor saw Aguilar with a knife and called police.

Aguilar held the two victims against their will for about two hours. During the standoff with police the two victims were able to escape. Quinn didn't know how they escaped.

Quinn said after about two hours the Police Department's Emergency Response Team, similar to a SWAT team, was called in. The ERT team used a distraction device to enter the residence and take Aguilar into custody.

Aguilar was in the county jail today with bail set at $25,000.

Quinn said investigators are not sure why Aguilar held the victims against their will. She said police are not sure how the victims and Aguilar are acquainted.
