CALIPATRIA — Calipatria firefighters saved a man from drowning in a canal Sunday morning after he overturned his double-trailer tractor-trailer rig into a canal.

The Calipatria Fire Department reported a man, whose identity was not available today, was found half-submerged in a canal near the intersection of Highway 115 and Titsworth Road about 4:50 a.m.

Apparently the driver did not negotiate the turn and drove the rig into the canal. The truck was hauling two empty trailers.

Three Calipatria firefighters entered the canal to rescue the man. The man was wedged between the truck and the embankment.

The man did not seem to have any serious injuries but was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley to be examined.
