>>50 years ago — Eight choral groups of the First Methodist Church of El Centro will be heard at an annual Easter concert of sacred music. Easter Sunday services, with various instruments and vocal soloists featured, will be at 5:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

>>40 years ago — An attempt by thousands of Los Angeles area students to turn the Salton Sea into a site for the annual "reckless, restless" Easter weekend met with firm resistance from Imperial County deputy sheriffs.

>>30 years ago — About 750 Valley Cub and Boy Scouts will present their annual Scout-O-Rama in and around the Casa de Mañana at the California Mid-Winter Fairgrounds. Returning exhibits include the popular "critter crawl," clean-air sub-compact cars and how to score in archery.

>>20 years ago — Incumbent City Councilman Tony P. Tirado and political newcomer Bill J. Polkinhorn beat five other candidates to win election Tuesday to two Calexico City Council seats. The election saw one of the heaviest local voter turnouts in recent years.
