Voice: Time for a change on council in Calexico

April 15, 2002

This is in response to your article April 8 regarding Victor Carrillo's Calexico City Council seat.

I don't think it's about whose next in line. The citizens of Calexico voted for two new candidates because they wanted change in the Calexico City Council and its administration. The other candidates had their shot at the "seat" and if they want another crack at the title, let them get back into the ring!

To replace Mr. Carrillo's seat with "who's next in line," would not appease the voters of Calexico. It would be like seating someone who had lost the election.

Let's do the democratic will of the people by having another election and let the voters of Calexico decide who they want to seat.

Emphasis should be placed on the quality of candidates for the City Council rather than the cost of running another election. In the long term "democracy" will pay off.

It's time for a change, and Calexico has the opportunity again in November of this year.
