Thank You: Burrito sale for super readers kudos

April 16, 2002

Thanks so much to Denice Valdez for organizing the burrito sale held during open house at Myron D. Witter School and thank you to all of the parents who helped make our burrito sale such a success.

I would especially like to thank Dora Rodriguez for cooking the delicious meat for our burritos. Several people approached me and wanted the recipe.

A great big thank you to Mary Castillo for bringing a "bakery" of delicious homemade cookies, cupcakes and cakes.

A special thanks to Virginia Garcia, Edward Valdez, Ida Valdez, Sally Leigh, Frances Nuñez, Pablo and Janina Cortez and Mr. Vicuna for your help, and thank you to all of the parents who donated food items.

It's great when the business community recognizes the accomplishments of young readers. We all appreciate the generous donations from the following Brawley businesses: Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co., Fiesta Tortillas and Vons Market.

The biggest thank you goes to my 20 students. Thank you for accepting the challenge of becoming better readers. You passed 1,000 Accelerated Reader comprehension tests before Christmas. You passed 2,000 Accelerated Reader comprehension tests before Easter. And — I predicted that you will most definitely pass 3,000 Accelerated Reader comprehension tests before summer break.

We earned enough money at our burrito sale to buy reading trophies for all 20 students. These trophies will show every student that their parents are proud of them, their community is proud of them and their teacher and principal are proud of them.

Together we have made a difference in a child's life.
