Voice: Plaque honoring Speer would be wonderful sentiment, daughter says

April 16, 2002

I am the youngest daughter of Chief J. Leonard Speer, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 10, 1998. I try to read the online paper daily but must admit I do miss a day here and there.

I just happened to hit the archives button when much to my surprise I found I had missed an article about remembering my dad.

It brought tears to my eyes as you have no idea how much this means to me. My dad was such a special person and truly loved being in law enforcement.

Calipatria became family to him the last 10 years of his life.

Having a plaque placed on the outside of the building would be wonderful and such an honor. I just want him remembered and not forgotten. He did so much for the Valley.

Thank you to all.
