Earth Day spurs poster, essay contests

The Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program has announced winners of the Earth Day 2002 poster contest.

The contest was open to fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders throughout Imperial County. Students were asked to draw posters that illustrated this year's theme, "Recycling: It's Good for All of Us." More than 300 entries were received.

All awards will be presented and all posters will be exhibited at the Earth Day 2002 Festival on April 20 at the Plaza de la Cultura at the Imperial Valley Expo. The overall winner's poster will be displayed on a billboard on Imperial Avenue in El Centro from March 20 to April 20. · First place — Nara Shin, sixth grade, Desert Garden Elementary School, El Centro

· Second place — Jordan Thomas, fifth grade, Harding Elementary School, El Centro


· Third place — Sergio Vargas, fourth grade, Lincoln Elementary School, El Centro

Fifth grade:

· Second place — Lenin Noris, Desert Garden
