Assault leads to stolen car arrests

April 16, 2002|STAFF REPORT

SALTON CITY — A call from a man here reporting he was the victim of an assault by his roommate Monday led sheriff's deputies to arrest both men for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle.

Roger Bush, 40, contacted authorities at 10:50 p.m., stating he was assaulted by his roommate, Larry Barnes, 51.

Both men live in the Johnson Landing trailer park in the Salton City area, but information was unavailable on whether they share a trailer.

When sheriff's deputies arrived they arrested both men, said sheriff's Sgt. Manuel Avila.

Barnes was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Avila said he was unsure what weapon was used, but he said Bush was not seriously hurt.

Bush was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Information on what he was wanted for was unavailable this morning, Avila said.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen rental car that was supposed to be turned in to a rental agency about a month ago, Avila reported.
