Haro sparks Spartan golfers

HOLTVILLE — Ivan Haro shot a 3-over-par 38 Tuesday to lead Central Union High's boys golf team to a 163-177 win over Eastlake High of Chula Vista.

Chris Robb carded a 38 on the front nine or Central at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort. Mario Luna shot 40 and Kyle Ott added 47.

Central (17-8 overall, 8-4 Imperial Valley League) competes at 1 p.m. Thursday in an IVL meet at Barbara Worth.

Imperial 412, Warner 480

WARNER — Brandon Wood was low medalist Tuesday shooting an 86 to lead Imperial High's boys golf team to a 412-480 win over host Warner Springs.

Shawn Gutierrez carded a 105 at the par-72 Warner Springs Ranch course, Lance Havens shot 106 and Damien McCullough and Aaron Nelson both added 115s.


Imperial (3-2 Desert Mountain League) faces Calipatria at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Del Rio Country Club.

Brawley 158, Marian Catholic 162

BRAWLEY — Led by Garrett Fargo's 38, the Brawley Union High boys golf team squeaked out a 158-162 victory over Marian Catholic here Tuesday.

Brian Emanuelli shot a 39 for Brawley, followed by Michael Quick with a 40. Adam Schmitt and Preston Soto both finished with 41s for Brawley.

The Wildcats (17-9 overall) play at 1 today against El Capitan in Lakeside.

Boys tennis

Southwest 18, Coachella 0

Southwest High's boys tennis team blitzed visiting Coachella on Tuesday 18-0.

In singles, Southwest's No. 1 netter, Timm Walter, won his sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, the Eagles' No. 2 player, Greg Lyon, won 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 and Southwest's No. 3 man, Randy Lyon, triumphed 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.

Southwest's No. 1 tandem of Chris Thomas and Neil Stickles won 6-0, 6-2, default, the Eagles No. 2 team of Hector Bravo and Kareem Salem won 6-0, 6-0, default and Southwest's No. 2 duo of Idreese Sullman and Jake Park won 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, default.

Southwest (9-0 overall, 3- Imperial Valley League) plays at 3 today at La Jolla High.
