The Imperial County Sheriff's Office is investigating the activities of two Los Angeles area residents after they allegedly were found transporting marijuana by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Sheriff's Investigator Jesse Lopez said Border Patrol agents apprehended a 20-year-old man and a 30-year-old man at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 86 near Salton City.

Lopez said the two were caught with about 2 pounds of marijuana. He said he preferred not to release their names because the investigation is ongoing.

He said the two tried to pass through the checkpoint about 10 p.m. Tuesday. Agents were suspicious of the two so they were sent to a second inspection.

Agents found the marijuana inside the four-door older model vehicle.

Lopez said officials will be filing a complaint against the two with the District Attorney's Office.
