An open air market reportedly slated to begin business shortly is already open, according to the business owner.

Yuma resident Daniel Dinwiddie said the California Market Place opened two weeks ago and has 55 vendors.

"It's like nothing that's been here before," he said.

Items for sale include sunglasses, new and used restaurant equipment, women's apparel, indoor and outdoor decorative water fountains, silk flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables, golfing equipment and apparel, leather goods, cosmetics and party supplies.

"We have a little bit of everything," Dinwiddie said, adding at least 90 percent of the merchandise is new.

The market is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. Beginning May 3, the hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Fridays through Sundays.

"It will give people somewhere to go after the heat lets up," Dinwiddie said. "It's family-oriented."

Dinwiddie owns a similar business in Yuma, called the Arizona Market Place, which opened in November.

The California Market Place is at 395 E. Aurora Drive, near the intersection of Dogwood Road. The local phone number is 336-0715.
