>>50 years ago — A resolution by two Imperial Valley game committees requesting a later hunting season for ducks and geese was taken under further consideration last night by Albert Day, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, who met with Valley sportsmen in the Planters Hotel in Brawley.

>>40 years ago — The second annual "Sand and Air Show," sponsored by the Imperial Valley Dune Buggy Association and the Brawley Skydivers, has been set for May 6 at the new Hugh Osborne lookout park on Glamis Road.

>>30 years ago — Frank Arellano, a two-year councilman, was unanimously elected mayor for one year by the El Centro City Council. Arellano, a grocery store employee, was mayor pro tem last year. He replaces Henry Alarcon as mayor.

>>20 years ago — El Centro's two new councilmen will be seated and a new mayor will be selected when the council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Harry Weissman and Randall Horton, who won the election last week, will be sworn into office, replacing incumbent Dale Gares and Ed Snively. Both incumbents decided not to run for re-election.
