>>50 years ago — Brawley will host the San Diego Chamber of Commerce goodwill tour tomorrow. More than 100 representatives will wind up a swing through the desert area with a noon barbecue on the Plaza.

>>40 years ago — Member of the board of directors of the Imperial Valley Developmental Agency, smarting under the sting of criticism initiated in El Centro, voted last night 8-1 for approval of their $91,672 budget for 1962-63. Wallace Tow, City Council representative, cast the vote against it.

>>30 years ago — Will Imperial County get much money from geothermal development? There are a lot of guesses, but no on knows for certain what impact a full-fledged geothermal development will have here. The Board of Supervisors named six county officers to study the economic impact.

>>20 years ago — Westmorland volunteer firefighters, backed up by the Brawley department, extinguished a fire that resulted after a tractor-trailer rig carrying 50 pound bags of sulfur flipped Monday. The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. on Highway 86 about five miles north of Westmorland. The driver, Russell Dystra of Fresno, was uninjured.
