Voice: What really is the population of Brawley?

April 22, 2002

I heard some guys talking about the population signs on the four main roads into Brawley. Seems when you enter from the west, east or south the population reads 19,450. When entering from the north it reads 15,350. They were debating which level of government was responsible: city, county, state or federal.

These men missed the point. All these agencies are paid with tax money. Three of four signs is 75 percent and that's pretty good for any government bureau. We might exclude teachers, the police and firemen, but even they are handicapped by senseless bureaucratic bungling.

Maybe the bureaucrats are right! Anyone can see when entering Brawley from the north there are fewer people in that part of town.
