50 years ago — More than 500 Boy Scouts, Scout officials and Scout patrons of the Imperial Valley-Yuma area council dedicated the Robert S. Eastlink memorial lodge at the Scout camp on Martinez Lake in Arizona.

>>40 years ago — Nine persons died as a result of a head-on collision between a station wagon and a sedan on Highway 99 four miles east of Westmorland. The accident is thought to have been the worst in the nation for the Easter holiday and set a new record for the number of dead in one accident for Imperial County.

>>30 years ago — The Imperial Valley College Athletic Club honored two Desert Conference championship teams at the annual winter awards dinner in the student union. Basketball and wrestling were in the spotlight as 250 Arab fans paid tribute to coaches Jim Walker and Leon Kelsoe and IVC's outstanding cage and mat squads.

>>20 years ago — At least 50 entries are scheduled to participate in Calexico's Cavalcade Parade on Saturday, which will officially kick off festivities honoring the history of Imperial Valley and the passage through the area of Spanish explorer Capt. Juan Bautista de Anza in the 1700s. Parade chairman Pat R. Hashem said state Health and Welfare Department Director Douglas Patiño is also scheduled to participate in the parade.
