Eagles net narrow win

Southwest High's boys tennis team pulled out a victory over La Quinta on Monday with the outcome decided by total games won.

The Eagles and La Quinta tied 9-9 in sets so the tie-breaker involved total games won. Southwest won 74 games to La Quinta's 73.

Greg Lyon, No. 1 singles for Southwest, tallied scores of 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Timm Walter, the Eagles' No. 2 singles netter, went 0-6, 5-7, 6-0. John Bonano, playing third singles for Southwest, went 0-6, 5-7, 6-0.

Southwest's No. 1 doubles team of Chris Thomas and Neil Stickles scored 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. The Eagles' No. 2 tandem of Randy Lyon and Hector Bravo went 6-0, 1-6, 6-2. Southwest's No. 3 doubles duo of Kareem Salem and Idresse Sullman scored 6-4, 2-6. 5-7.


Southwest (9-1) hosts Calexico at 5 p.m. Wednesday.


Palm Desert 8, Brawley 0

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High softball team was held to two hits as it fell 8-0 to Palm Desert here Monday.

Erin Rutherford and Reggie Horta recorded Brawley's hits. Stephanie Murray took the loss on the mound.

Brawley (10-10 overall) plays at Calexico at 4:15 today.
