Voice: Carter is not a good administrator, and the numbers prove it

April 26, 2002

Mr. Glenn Carver, apparently you did not read the Imperial Valley Press of April 7. The front page reads "Sheriff's Office budget deficit evaporates." If you read the fifth paragraph, you will read that the county jail operations is still $2.2 million over budget.

By the way, I am not a Mendoza supporter. It just happens that I attend Imperial Valley College and during the political forum I heard when Mr. Carter called Mr. Mendoza a liar.

As for Mr. Gary Redfern, it seems like everybody is missing the real facts. I don't doubt that Mr. Carter is a fine man nor a good sheriff. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. The fact is that he is not a good administrator. My parents always said to me, "If you don't have the money, you don't spend it."

Now some of you want everybody to ignore the fact that there is something wrong with the administration of our county jail. It is so easy to say "get over it" just ignore it, it will fix itself. Wake up!

I don't think "the others" as you refer to the Mendoza supporters in your letter to the editor, are whining about the election results. They just want to make sure that there was nothing funny going on at the elections department, as it has in the past.
