Annual ‘Laughs for PAL' event set Saturday

The El Centro Police Athletic League presents "Laughs for PAL III," featuring comedians Carlos Oscar, Felipe Esparza, Patrick DeGuire, Ruben Quintana and Darren Carter, at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ryerson Youth Center.

"Laughs for PAL" is the organization's annual fund raiser benefiting athletic programs for the city's youth.

Tickets to the event are $25 for reserved seating and $15 for general seating and can be purchased at the Ryerson center, 1100 N. 4th St., at the El Centro Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau or call 337-4577.

The comedians featured have appeared on a number of television programs and in comedy clubs and theaters across the country.

Oscar has made appearances on such television serials as "The Single Guy," "Living Single" and "In the House." He has performed standup comedy on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and HBO's "Loco Slam" and was featured in the film "A Vampire in Brooklyn."


Esparza has been on Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival" and Galavision's "Funny is Funny" as well as appearing at the Laugh Factory, The Improv and The Comedy Store.

DeGuire, who has been on Galavision's "¡Qué Locos!" and NBC's "Friday Night" comedy and music show, has performed alongside Paul Rodriguez and Roseanne Barr. In 1998, DeGuire won the Improv comedy club's national talent search contest.

Quintana also has performed on "¡Qué Locos!" and "Friday Night" as well as BET's "Comic View."

Carter has performed on both Comedy Central and Showtime.
