>>50 years ago — The Brawley City Council agreed to exchange deeds last night with the Board of Trustees of Brawley Union High School District for development of a recreation area on A Street. The city will develop a baseball park on one section and the high school will build a football field on the other.

>>40 years ago — The Brawley Union High School band won two superior and two excellent ratings at the regional music festival in Anaheim recently. Central Union High School of El Centro received two superior and one excellent rating. Both schools enjoyed a visit to Disneyland after the competition.

>>30 years ago — A crowd of east side residents jammed El Centro City Hall to support a plea for action on a community center. Spokesman for the group was Benjamin Solomon, who presented a petition and results of a survey conducted this week showing community interest in the center.

>>20 years ago — Hot oil in a French frying machine flashed into flames gutting the kitchen at the Barbara Worth Country Club on Monday causing up to $300,000 in damage. Jim Crandall, manager of the club, said today the extent of the damage has not been determined.
