Three injured in rollover

CALEXICO — A vehicle rollover left a 20-year-old San Diego woman with major injuries and two others in the car with minor injuries.

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, Gustavo Cervantes, 21, of San Diego was driving a two- door vehicle on Highway 98 just east of Coyote One Road east of Calexico with passengers Brenda Vera, 20, and Daneth Alvarado, 20, both of San Diego.

Alvarado suffered major head injuries in the accident while Vera and Cervantes suffered minor injuries. Cervantes was treated at the scene while Vera was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Alvarado was transported from El Centro Regional to a hospital in San Diego.

Both Vera and Cervantes were wearing seat belts. Alvarado was not.

According to the press release, Cervantes was westbound on Highway 98 about 7:10 a.m. Sunday at a speed of 75 to 80 mph when his vehicle ran off the north edge of the road. He tried to get back on to the road but overcorrected.

His car then went past the eastbound lanes and off the road. His vehicle overturned several times on the desert sand before coming to rest.
