HOLTVILLE — Holtville High School will have a new vice principal and a new science building for the fall 2002 semester.

Holtville Unified School District Superintendent Pat Maruca said the new science building will consist of two full labs, two lecture classrooms and a teacher work area.

"What's historic about it is that it's the first new building in 30 years," said Maruca.

David Ostermann, Holtville Unified's chief business official, said the cost of the building was about $1 million, with 60-70 percent of the funds coming from the state and the remainder coming from the district's general fund.

The school board recently named Darrel Pechtl as Holtville High's new vice principal. He will be assuming that post by the fall of 2002.

Maruca said Pechtl has been teaching at El Centro's Southwest and Central Union high schools for 10 years and was involved in numerous activities.

"We're excited to have him on board. He will be an excellent addition to our management team," said Maruca.
