Thank You: Blood drive for Sunrunners thanks

May 02, 2002

On April 23, Imperial Valley Blood Services held a blood drive at Alford Distributing to benefit two members of the Sunrunners Car Club, Frank Barros and Ed Quan.

The response was overwhelming! In just six hours we saw 86 people and drawing 81 pints of blood. Both Frank and Ed were on hand and I think they were overwhelmed by the show of support and caring exhibited by the people of the Imperial Valley.

All of this could not have been possible without the support of the Imperial Valley Press, KXO radio and the Sunrunners Car Club who publicized the event. I owe special thanks to Cherie, Rich and Cherisse Alford for agreeing to host the drive and for providing cold drinks and drawing prizes.

Special thanks also must go to Carroll Buckley and KXO radio for donating 20 Padres tickets. Toni Almaden and Sylvia Ortiz from Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District must be lauded for offering free cholesterol screening. Additionally, I want to thank McNeece Mart for providing pizza for our donors. Thanks, too to Mary Slade and Lydia Vega from Imperial Valley Community Health Organization for their help in registering donors.

Finally, I wish to thank the many donors who waited ever so patiently to give blood. Your donations will not only help to ensure blood is available to Frank and Ed, should they need it, but to anyone in the Imperial Valley who might require blood or blood products.

Unlike another organization that is attempting to collect blood here, blood that leaves the Valley, the blood collected by Imperial Valley Blood Services returns to the area's two hospitals to meet the blood needs of this community.

We thank you for your past donations and ask for your continued support of Imperial Valley Blood Services.
