Eagles take second at final meet, still win IVL

WARNER SPRINGS — Despite taking second at the final Imperial Valley League meet of the season, the Southwest High golf team managed to walk away as IVL champions here Thursday.

Southwest, which ended the season atop the league's cumulative standings, finished with a combined 344 in Thursday's meet behind Palo Verde's 330.

Central took third with a 345 followed by Brawley with a 347 and Calexico with a 424.

Leading Southwest was Tyler Douthitt with an 80 followed by Bobby Kirby with an 86, Trevor Tagg with an 87 and Arek Legarra with a 91.

Central's Mario Luna was the day's medalist shooting a 78 with teammates Ivan Haro carding an 82, Chris Robb with a 92 and Adam Moler turning in a 93.


Leading Brawley were Adam Schmidt with an 84 followed by Ryan Mamer with an 85 and Garrett Fargo and Michael Quick both with 89s.

Eric Ugarte shot a 97 to lead Calexico with Ruben Payan shooting a 105, Edgar Ugarte a 108 and Alex Pinedo a 114.

Following Southwest in the final league standings were Central in second place, Palo Verde in third, Brawley in fourth and Calexico in fifth.

Holtville 337, Vincent Memorial 351

BORREGO SPRINGS — In a battle to determine the Desert Mountain League champion, the Holtville High golf team downed Vincent Memorial 337-351 to complete a perfect 10-0 DML season here Thursday.

Steven Hawk was medalist of the day for Holtville, shooting a 76 and followed by Colby Drye with an 83, Adam Durant with an 88 and Josh Durant with a 90.

Leading Vincent Memorial (9-1) were Jose Lopez and Daniel Rosas with 85s, Milton Rubio with an 89 and Jorge Vasquez with a 92.

The league championship was Holtville's fifth in a row.

Both teams will compete in the CIF San Diego Section qualifying match in Borrego Springs at noon May 13.
