Imperial curbside cleanup this weekend

May 06, 2002|STAFF REPORT

IMPERIAL — The city of Imperial has contracted with Valley Environmental Services to hold the city's first major citywide curbside cleanup day Friday and Saturday, offering residents the opportunity to discard large items at their curbside that normally cannot be put into the trash.

This service is being offered at no additional cost to residents.

"We have never done this before. However, if successful we are planning for this to become an annual event," said City Manager Vince Long.

"It will be a great opportunity to do a late spring cleanup around the house at no cost to residents," he added.

He said the service is being provided to allow residents a convenient means to dispose of articles that normally would need to be individually transported to a landfill or a drop-off site.

Valley Environmental Services will have curbside trash pick up those two days for large items such as furniture, mattresses, tables, chairs, washers and dryers.

Items that cannot be accepted include hazardous materials, green waste, liquids, batteries, paint, oils or dead animals.

Additionally, all items must be placed on the curbside. Bulk items will not be picked up from trailers or pickup truck beds.
