IMPERIAL — A 46-year-old Los Angeles woman was killed in a vehicle accident this morning west of here.

The woman's name was not available this morning.

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the woman's late model van collided with a hay squeeze vehicle driven by Gustavo Buenrostro, 39, of Calexico. The van burst into flames and the fire enveloped the hay squeeze.

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. on Forrester Road just north of Aten Road.

The Los Angeles woman was heading south on Forrester while Buenrostro was heading north on Forrester.

The press release states the woman, for an unknown reason, allowed her vehicle to drift across the northbound lanes onto the east dirt shoulder.

The woman attempted to steer back onto the roadway but while doing so overcorrected and the van skidded sideways. While the van skidded it collided with the hay squeeze.

Buenrostro suffered some minor cuts to his hands. He was treated at the scene.

Forrester Road was closed for about three hours this morning.
