QUESTION: This is Congressman Bob Filner's office in San Diego. The congressman would like to talk to the man from Iran who has been in the El Centro alien detention center for two months trying to prove his U.S. citizenship.

The congressman would like to look into the detainee's situation to see if his rights have been violated and what if anything we need to do to help him. — Congressional aide, San Diego

Great. The detainee, Saeed Kangarlou (A-14 606 587) insists he's a U.S. citizen based on his father's naturalization before he was 18. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service disputes the citizenship claim. Instead it continues its efforts to deport the detainee to a land he hasn't seen since he was 12, 35 years ago.

Why did St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Calipatria abruptly cancel a baptismal service? I made arrangements six weeks before the ceremony.

After confirming the arrangements and being assured all I had to do was attend one meeting and show up on the day of the baptism, I got busy.

I sent invitations to family and friends and organized a party.

When I got to the meeting five days before the baptism, I learned the baptism had been canceled because the priest would be doing confirmations instead.

I can't tell you how angry I was at the church. When I learned my child would not be baptized, it was too late to go elsewhere. — No Baptism, El Centro

Sharp-eyed readers may note an El Centro mother is complaining because her child's baptism was canceled at a Calipatria church.

That's a clue to the plight of Catholics with no church home. Some churches will not baptize or administer other sacraments to Catholics who are not registered in their parishes.

St. Patrick's baptizes all children, sometimes as many 40 or 50 kids. The Rev. Amador Lopez baptizes children on the first and last Saturday of each month. Orphan Catholics from around the Valley bring their kids to St. Patrick's for baptism.

The April 27 and May 11 baptisms were canceled for confirmation and first communion services. Why don't you give the church another chance? This time get the child baptized, then plan the party.

COMPLETE PLEASURE GUIDE — I have the complete lyrics for the song for the 50th wedding anniversary.

"It's Later Than You Think," first verse:

You work and work for years and years

You're always on the go

You never take a minute off

Too busy making dough

Someday you say you'll have your fun

When you're a millionaire

Imagine all the fun you'll have

In your old rocking chair

Chorus: Enjoy yourself it's later than you think

Enjoy yourself while you're still in the pink

The years go by quickly as a wink,

Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Second verse:

You're going to take that ocean trip

No matter come what may

You've got your reservations made

But you can't get away

Next year you'll see the world

You'll really get around

But how far can you travel

When you're six feet underground

— Music Man, San Diego

Thank you. We'll do the rest of this Monday.
