blood drive

Staff Report

BRAWLEY — Pioneers Memorial Hospital in this city will have its spring community blood drive Wednesday through Friday to increase blood supplies for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Donations will be accepted from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 8 a.m. until noon Friday.

Imperial Valley Blood Services would like to draw at least 150 pints of blood to help increase inventories for the holiday that typically draws crowds to the local sand dunes.

"We expect this to be the last big weekend out in the dunes and we typically use more blood over the holidays," said Blood Services spokeswoman Trish Burich-McNeece.

"While we encourage anyone who can to give, we especially need people with "O" positive and "O" negative," she said.

As an added incentive, Pioneers will offer free cholesterol and blood sugar screening to donors.

Anyone who hasn't donated since March 20 is eligible to give again.
