CALEXICO — Police here arrested an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy after they allegedly beat another man and stole his gold chain Sunday morning.

Alberto Olvera Minor, 18, of Calexico and the 17-year-old boy of Calexico were arrested around 6:30 a.m. Sunday in their homes for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Calexico police Lt. Jim Neujahr said police received a report around 3 a.m. Sunday from a man claiming he was beaten and robbed by three suspects. The victim and the suspects are acquaintances.

A 16-year-old boy named as a suspect by the victim was not arrested after officers determined he was not involved in the robbery or the beating.

Minor and the 17-year-old boy did not use a weapon, only their fists, but Neujahr said fists can be considered a weapon.

Neujahr said he preferred not to release the name of the victim. Information on his age was unavailable.

The victim told police the three confronted him in the 400 block of Beach Avenue around 3 a.m. The victim was walking home from a friend's house when he was confronted.

Minor allegedly accused the victim of having stolen his radio. The victim denied that. Minor then threatened that victim if he didn't return the radio or give him something of equal value, he would beat him up, said Neujahr.

The victim refused. The 17-year-old then asked him for his gold chain and the victim again refused. The 17-year-old suspect and Minor then started punching the victim.

The victim finally handed over his chain to stop the beating, according to police.

The juvenile arrested was taken to the county juvenile hall. Minor was in the county jail today with bail set at $20,000.
