CALEXICO — David Tessada's colleagues will get together Friday for a charity basketball game in his honor.
Tessada, longtime De Anza Junior High School instructor and cross-country coach, is receiving treatment in La Jolla for a rare blood disease. He has not been able to teach except for the first two weeks this school year.
The charity basketball game will pit Tessada's fellow instructors from De Anza against Willie Moreno Junior High teachers.
The game starts at 7 p.m. in Calexico High School's Varner Gym. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.
At halftime a lucky few will get to put on those inflatable sumo wrestling suits and smack into each other for the amusement of the crowd.
