Scholarship applications available for Calexico grads

The Calexico Education Foundation is taking scholarship applications for the categories of merit, general and vocational and for the Hector Lopez scholarship and the John and Marie Anderson scholarship. Eligible applicants are Calexico High School graduating seniors who will be attending a four-year university in the fall. They are $500 awards.

The foundation is seeking applications from Calexico High graduates studying at the graduate level and for former Calexico students transferring from Imperial Valley College to a four-year university. A creative talent scholarship is available to students at any level who seek assistance in the development of their creative talent.

The Calexico Education Foundation scholarship committee will be accepting and screening applicants for scholarships designated and provided for by the Calexico Women's Improvement Club and McDonald's of Calexico.

The foundation will award a total of $15,000 in scholarships this year. The funds are raised in the community from Calexico Unified School District employees, community and alumni donations, the annual dinner and the tango night dinner.

Deadline to apply is May 24, and scholarship recipients will be announced at the Senior Spotlight scheduled for June 6 at Calexico High.
