Thanks: McCabe Catalina trip kudos

May 15, 2002

McCabe eighth-grade students give huge thanks to local businesses for their donations used at a dinner/dance silent auction fund raiser Feb. 16. The monies raised were put forth into sending 62, eighth-grade students to Catalina Environmental Leadership Program for a week. This program is a residential environmental and outdoor education program.

This program inspires curiosity in and appreciation for the underwater world through exploration. It teaches students the advanced understanding of connections, land to sea, humans to nature, people to people and present to future. It covers responsibility and sustainable living while learning more about themselves and others.

Without the support of all these local businesses, this great educational, fun trip could not have taken place. Our special thanks to the following businesses: Lee Tires for a set of four Michelin tires, Mahomed and Fatima Suliman (one week accommodation in Mammoth), Curt and Julie Corda (harbor cruise for six people). To all the eighth-grade parents, your endless hours of fund raising and planning were really appreciated in many ways.

I personally would like to thank everyone for helping support our eighth-grade trip. We returned April 26 and we had a fabulous time, one in which the students, along with two teachers, Mrs. E. Miranda and Ms. K. Givens, four chaperones, Mr. Bob Zimmer, Mr. Tom McMillan, Mr. Larry Armendariz and myself will cherish the memories of our Catalina experience for years to come.
