>>50 years ago — Voters gave overwhelming approval to both special levy propositions on the El Centro high school and elementary school district ballots, tallies showed.

>>40 years ago — A Seeley youth who drank water out of the New River is in El Centro Community Hospital suffering from typhoid, hospital authorities said. Most of the boy's family has been inoculated against typhoid by the county Health Department. The boy is reported to be in good condition.

>>30 years ago — The Board of Supervisors adopted the 1972-73 salary schedule for more than 850 employees. Supervisors then canceled the action. Chairman Clifton Hurley and supervisors Red Sperber and Tunney Williams said they misunderstood the motion.

>>20 years ago — The stork had wheels Sunday and delivered twins in the back seat of an automobile and in an ambulance two miles apart in Highway 78 near Julian. The twins, Maria del Carmen and Francisco Barron, and their mother, Ramona, 20, of Brawley, are doing just fine in Pioneers Memorial Hospital.
