Baroom brawl at Barbara Worth reported Friday

May 18, 2002|By LAURA MITCHELL, Staff Writer

Imperial County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Barbara Worth County Club twice Friday night and early Saturday to break up a barroom brawl.

The first report was of a disturbance that later led to the fight, Imperial County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Steve Dail said.

"I think the guy who started the first problem remained there and the second time it really got out of hand," Dail said.

He said the man tried to pick a fight around 11:45 p.m. Deputies responded but could not find the man. Later, the same man returned to the bar and a fight ensued about 1:15 a.m., Dail said.

One man was hit on the head with a beer bottle and a woman was punched in the stomach. The man who punched the woman was placed under citizen's arrest, Dail said, and later arrested.

The fight involved at least two women, three men and the bar's bouncer, he said.

Eight sheriff's cars were sent to the scene the second time to break up the brawl and protect innocent patrons, Dail said.

Names of the individuals involved and the status of the arrested man were not available by presstime Saturday.
