Imperial County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested an El Centro man on suspicion of possession of stolen property after a stolen gun was found in his vehicle.

Carlos Alonso Garcia, 20, was arrested Wednesday after investigators linked a gun found in his vehicle to the April 27 burglary of a Seeley home.

Taken from the garage of the residence in the 1800 block of Rio Vista were five rifles and five handguns.

Sheriff's Investigator Joe Alvarez said deputies found the gun when they stopped to assist Garcia, whose vehicle had broken down Tuesday on Silsbee Road about five miles southeast of Seeley.

Garcia was arrested at the time for carrying a concealed weapon in the vehicle but deputies did not know the gun was stolen. Garcia posted bail the next day. Deputies contacted investigators, who were already working the case, searching for the stolen rifles and guns.

Investigators searched files using the recovered handgun's description and discovered it was stolen. They contacted the gun's owner to confirm it was one of the guns taken.

Garcia was re-arrested around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

As of Friday, Garcia remained in county jail with bail set at $5,000. Information on Garcia's custody status was not available this morning.
