Brawley's Cynthia Flores defends CIF shot put crown

POWAY — Brawley Union High School's Cynthia Flores defended her CIF San Diego Section Division II shot put championship at Poway High School here Saturday, winning the event with a put of 40 feet.

Flores qualifies for the Masters meet at Poway High on Saturday.

Also qualifying for Masters from Brawley was Raul Hernandez, who took third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet. The Wildcats' Marcos Torres qualified as an alternate in the 400 meters, finishing in 50.62 seconds.

Central Union High's J.D. Gaddis took second in the high jump with a 6-foot effort. Gaddis finished ahead of Brawley's Hernandez because of fewer jump attempts at 6 feet.

Gaddis placed sixth in the 300 hurdles finishing in 41.09 and qualifies for Masters as an alternate.
