BUHS' Malvik takes 4th at CIF swim finals in S.D.

SAN DIEGO — Brawley Union High School's Petter Malvik took fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke at the CIF San Diego Section Division III swim finals here Saturday, setting a school record and finishing in 1 minute, 30 seconds.

Malvik teamed with Ethan Schoch, Robbie Overstreet and Trevor Smith to place eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.32, also a school record.

Central Union High's Fabian Amparano, the Spartans' only qualifier, took 11th in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.22.

On the girls side, Brawley High's Jennifer Cardenas finished the 100 butterfly in 1:02.32, placing seventh. She, too, set a school record. Cardenas' sister, Natalia, helped break another school record as she teamed with Tracy King, Lauren Roberts and Denae Smith to finish in 1:49.86 in the 200 freestyle relay. The team placed 11th.

Jennifer Cardenas partnered with Smith, Roberts and Brooke Pace to take 10th in the 200 medley relay in 2:01.96.

Pace placed 12th in the 100 freestyle in 58.90.

The meet concluded the swim season for all local swimmers.
