CALEXICO — Police here arrested a 31-year-old man on Monday for allegedly robbing a 16-year-old boy Saturday night.

Calexico police Lt. Jim Neujahr said police arrested Jose Humberto Morales of Calexico at 5:21 p.m. Monday.

Morales is suspected of robbing the 16-year-old while he walked home around 10 p.m. Saturday on the 900 block of East Second Street.

Morales went up to the boy and asked him for his money and jewelry. The boy refused. Morales then threatened the boy by telling him he would beat him up and kill his mother, who was not with him at the time. Neujahr said Morales and the teen knew of each other prior to the incident. While no weapon was used, the boy became afraid, so he gave him his jewelry and money.

Police spotted Morales on Monday while they were on their way to a disturbance call, Neujahr said, and quickly arrested him without incident. Morales was not connected to the disturbance call, Neujahr said.
