Voice: Enviromentally concerned or environmental extremists?

May 22, 2002

Most Americans consider themselves enviromentalists or at the least a conservationists. We all want clean air, clean deserts and clean waterways to which we can escape. I want these things. I recycle, participate in desert cleanups and check all my vehicles for emission problems. But in recent years I have watched the environmental movement become more extreme in its demands.

To listen to the environmental groups these days, all public land should be untouched. Dams should be busted and reservoirs drained. Mineral and energy development on public lands should be stopped, military bases closed.

What do you think would happen to our economy if the environmental extremists had there way? Well let me tell you: our national security would be in jeopardy, our dependency on foreign commodities would skyrocket and our unemployment rate would jump.

Next time you go to the polls find out where your candidate stands on all issues to include environmental issues. Enviromental extremists don't have a leg to stand on if they don't have the backing of House or the Senate.
