>>50 years ago — The Eisenhower Volunteers, a group of Republicans pledged to work for the candidacy of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower for president, will support the delegation of Gov. Warren at the June 3 primary. This announcement was made by Dick Kershaw of Brawley, county chairman of the organization.

>>40 years ago — Campaign chairmen for two Valley cities have been appointed by Assemblyman Laverette D. House of Brawley, seeking re-election to the 75th District Assembly post. Elizabeth Harris will act as Holtville's campaign leader and Robert Wagner will handle the Imperial area.

>>30 years ago — Once a month since January, 94 students from Central Union High School have visited the city's elementary school classrooms and talked about drugs. "Dope Stop" is the effort's name.

>>20 years ago — A criminal complaint was filed today in El Centro Municipal Court against El Centro businessman and former city council candidate Richard Sanchez charging arson with connection with a fire at his barbershop April 29. The complaint was approved by the District Attorney's Office following a lengthy investigation by El Centro police.
