Calexico chamber mails ballots

CALEXICO — Calexico Chamber of Commerce election committee chairman Daniel Romero announced that election ballots will be sent to all chamber members today.

Romero stated there are 16 candidates running for six open seats on the chamber board of directors. Romero said that members of the election committee nominated candidates. All candidates must be members in good standing of the Calexico chamber.

Those vying for a position are incumbents: Blanca Lopez: Portico Industrial Park; Linda Barrientos: Linda Real Estate; Libby Peraza: Valley Independent Bank; Gil Acuña: Union Bank of California; Silvia Lemus: Best Wertern John Jay Inn; Ingrid Ramirez: Golden Acorn Casino, and non-incumbents Phil Aubrey: Wal-Mart Calexico; Robert (Robbie) Herrera: Employment Partnering Services; Diana Inman: Small Business Development Center; Brenda Martinez: El Remate Inc.; Arturo (Art) Obeso: Western Auto; Rasheed Rasheed: Jerusalem's Sportswear; Cristina Rocha: Cristina's Lingerie; Cesar Rodriguez: Arctic Air; Arturo Selwick: Selwick's and Jose Alfonso Velez: Direct Marketing.

All ballots must be returned to the Calexico chamber office by 5 p.m. June 3. Ballots will be counted June 3 and results will be announced during the next scheduled meeting of the chamber board.

The six re-elected or newly elected directors will be sworn in on June 20 during the chamber's annual membership dinner-dance being held at the historic Hotel De Anza.
